As an almost yearly vacationer at Desting West for more than 15 years, we generally love the area, the rentals and the value for our money.

Starting with the good: As always, a nice clean rental unit with most of the amenities of home at one of the most enjoyable gulf beaches we've ever been to. The units are furnished with comfortable beds, clean bathrooms and kitchens stocked fairly well for basic cooking needs (although this one lacked dish soap, dish washer pods and salt and pepper, which most usually have). Access to the beach is wonderful. The pools are sparkling clean. The available charcoal grills are a nice touch. Quiet hours are well-observed (even by neighboring properties). Our favorite local restaurants are Crab Shack, The Pancakery (Destin) and Magnolia Grill (for one special, fancy evening of dining).

Now the bad: First, we noted no hot water from the kitchen faucet. Management sent someone up to take a look fairly quickly (while we were out). I was told that there was hot water in all the baths, but they didn't know why there wasn't any in the kitchen. That was the end of the response we got, and no further action was taken during our 10-day stay regardless of several promptings from us. We worked around it, but it seemed particularly non-responsive on their part. Second, there were fliers in the elevators, and I even got a text, about scheduled smoke and fire alarm testing which I correctly ignored because it was for dates after our stay. However, what I wasn't informed about was the cable/modem upgrades that were to happen during our stay. So, when someone knocked on the door for access to the unit during my grandson's nap time, I wasn't very happy nor willing to comply partly because I had it confused with the work I knew about (they did leave and come back later though).

Finally: We specifically try to rent units with regular height tables, both inside and on the balconies. They are more convenient and

We had a wonderful time staying here. We usually stay next door at The Island, but after this stay, I don’t think we can go back to a hotel. The condo was so nice and clean and the location was perfect. We loved it! The pictures and description were exactly what we saw when we arrived. We can’t wait to return.

Unit was spacious and clean. We really enjoyed our stay! A few recommendations for improvements would be the shower head in the master bedroom is a solid stream, the living room slider is very heavy and hard to open, and the mattresses were worn - can begin to feel springs.

Can’t recommend this enough for a family trip. My parents, wife, and three young children, stayed comfortably for a week. Paul, the owner, is a great guy and went way out of his way for us when he didn’t have to. The property itself is a perfect place for a family get away. Mornings were spent on the bay side where there is less wind, a hot tub, a heated pool and a lazy River. You can also go fishing on the resort’s private pier.
Afternoons were spent in the beautiful white beaches. To the east there are 2 resorts and then 4 miles of beach with absolutely no development. Surf fishing was fantastic. Caught two bull reds. One just under 40 inches. If you do surf fish I recommend fishing with higher rip currents in deeper water between the beach and the sand bar..Great pompano fishing as well. On calmer days we didn’t catch a fish. We were able to catch sand fleas and use them for bait in pompano rigs.

We had a wonderful time at the beach! The view of the beach from balcony is perfect! The only thing I would say needs some attention would be in the master bath there is some mold or water stain in the ceiling that needs to be fixed. It didn't compromise our stay at all. Other than that we didn't see anything wrong with this condo. They have a bunch of beach chairs in this condo for guest use. We love this location and having a choice between the beach, pools, hot tubs, and lazy river with a crosswalk is definitely a plus.

We really enjoyed this rental unit! It was clean and nicely decorated, just as the pictures represented. We appreciated the well-stocked kitchen and bathrooms, and the washer/dryer unit. The only complaint we have regarding this stay is that on our first full day in the unit, with no prior notice/warning, we had a group of workers suddenly appear on our balcony (via a crane) to paint the walls and railings. This was rather disruptive as we had been sitting outside. It would have been nice to know, or for the work to be scheduled when the unit was not occupied.

Beautiful views. Happy to be on vacation. Condo was nice. Check in staff - not friendly or helpful. The stairwell was pretty gross and stinky and the elevator was broke our whole stay. There was another one - but very slow. For the price I thought it would be a nicer a place, but it was nice enough! Beach was beautiful and chair rental staff was very helpful and kind. Nice we could walk to a couple restaurants.

#408 Gulfside, Destin West Beach and Bay Resort. I love beach kitsch decor, here it’s way over the top and absolutely perfect. Every room lends to the theme, you never forget you’re on vacation. The kitchen was well stocked with pot, pans, matching dishes and utensils. Plenty of towels, pillows and blankets. The beds are fine and the furniture is in good condition. We love the location relative to the beach and that you can walk to restaurants and shops. The huge lazy river is a fun alternative to the beach.
